TV?s Buffy SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR is sticking with the horror genre for her next movie. She is reported in both Variety and Hollywood Reporter that she will ?topline? in the remake, ?THE GRUDGE?.
Gellar, who starred in the lucrative horror movies, ?I Know What You Did Last Summer? and ?Scream 2? is hoping to continue within that success with the forthcoming English remake of the Japanese horror thriller ?Ju-On.?
As described in Variety, Takashi Shimizu, who wrote and directed the original pic, will helm the remake. Producer Taka Ichise (?Ringu?), who also worked on the original, will team with SAM RAIMI and partner Rob Tapert to produce. Screenplay for the new film will be adapted by Stephen Susco, combining elements from the original ?Ju-On? and its three sequels.
?The Grudge? is about a murderous supernatural curse born of a grudge held by someone who dies angry. The curse passes like a virus to its victims.
Gellar recently wrapped ?Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed? for Warner Bros. and is gearing up for ?Romantic Comedy,? a spoof on the cliches of the romantic comedy genre at MGM.
